More than $3,500 was raised during the Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy’s Reach-a-Reader day in Williams Lake last week.
Numerous volunteers hit the streets to sell the Thursday, Jan. 27 Reach-a-Reader edition of the Tribune.
Money collected went directly to the organization, and thanks to the generous people and organizations in Williams Lake, people of all ages will be given the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of literacy.
Volunteers collected about $1,368 on the street, plus $1,000 from the Cariboo Chilcotin Principals and Vice Principals Association, $500 from Daybreak Rotary, $500 from the Cariboo Chilcotin Teachers’ Association, and $200 from Heartland Toyota. Save On Foods also donated $300 worth of coupons and books.
“It does speak to how much the community supported us,” says Shirley-Pat Gale, community literacy co-ordinator with CCPL, adding that she sends a “huge thank you” to the community for the support.
