Williams Lake city council came a step closer to passing a bylaw that would change parking violation fines.

On Tuesday night, city council gave three readings to a bylaw that would set the fines for parking violations at $75, with Class A and Class B violations reduced to a $25 fine if paid within five calendar days.

The violations include over parking in one- or two-hour zones, parking for more than 48 hours, and parking more than 12 inches from the curb.

The change to fines is to encourage prompt payment of parking fines.
