One person is dead following a motor vehicle collision north of Williams Lake yesterday morning.
At about 7:30 a.m., Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services from Quesnel and Williams Lake, B.C. Ambulance, and Search and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 just south of the Macalister overpass.
The Williams Lake RCMP say a northbound tractor trailer crossed the centre line into the southbound lane and collided head on with a Dodge pickup truck.
The passenger in the pickup was in critical condition at the scene and was taken by ambulance to Cariboo Memorial Hospital where he passed away. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the incident. The RCMP say the roads were in good winter driving condition and were believed to be wet at the time.
Police say the name of the deceased will be released after the next of kin have been advised. Police, an accident analyst, the Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services, and the Coroner’s Office are investigating.
