The smells of savoury treats, sounds of local musicians keeping rhythm, and buzz of vendors and patrons whiling away the hours return to Nanaimo’s downtown with the Commercial Street Night Market this week.
The hustle and bustle of the vibrant market’s first night will start Thursday, June 13, from 5-9 p.m., and continue every Thursday evening during the same hours until Aug. 22.
A release by the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce invites city residents and tourists to experience “unforgettable nights filled with vibrant colours, mouth-watering food, live music and family-friendly fun” during the 11-week outdoor event.
The release noted the market, along the downtown core, will host nearly 200 artisan vendors, more than a dozen food trucks and a dedicated kids’ zone. This year, an inclusive space at the Harbourfront library will offer a welcoming environment for people with neurodiverse needs.
In the release, Cheryl Folland, neurosomatic practitioner and advocate, said providing sensory balance and a sanctuary is important so everyone can thrive and enjoy the festivities.
“The night market brings our community together, showcasing the best of Nanaimo,” noted Corry Gervais, CEO of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, in the release.
