Multiple grass fires spark off Old Vernon Road.

A grass fire that sparked around 4:45 p.m. on June 9 was likely caused by farming equipment, said Kelowna Fire Captain Mike Brownlee.

The fire at Eldorado Ranch along Old Vernon Road, north of the Kelowna airport, saw five engines, a bush truck, command truck, and safety truck attend, along with a water tender from the Ellison Fire Department.

Arriving crews found a fire about 100 metres square in the field and spreading quickly. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze in about 10 minutes, but stayed on site for several hours extinguishing hot spots.

Farm workers assisted fire crews and RCMP attended to control traffic.
