The mountain race sculpture in Williams Lake has been vandalized once again.
Carved from an old growth cedar, the familiar sculpture has greeted visitors at the main highway intersection near the Chevron Station on Oliver Street for seven years.
It is one of several sculptures around the city created by Kersley area carver Ken Sheen that pay tribute to the city’s Western heritage.
More recently Sheen has gained recognition as one of HGTV’s Carver Kings and for carving pieces for Pioneer Log Homes of B.C.
Four years ago the mountain racer sculpture lost an arm to vandalism and was eventually repaired.
This time around both his arms and the brim of his cowboy hat have been hacked off.
“We spend money beautifying our town and then people do this,” said Mayor Walt Cobb Tuesday. “What have we got to do, fence these things off?”
Cobb said he alerted his staff to contact Sheen to see if it can be repaired.
