On Sunday, June 6 the rear tires fell off while an elderly woman was driving her car in the North Thompson Valley.
Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander of the Clearwater RCMP, said the elderly woman had just purchased the tires at a local shop and they likely were not installed properly, causing them to fly off.
The woman wasn't injured, and was provided her a ride home to Blue River, Simpson added.
"Cpl. McGeorge confirmed that she was safe and advised them to contact the local tow company to help her retrieve her vehicle."
On July 2, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m. a complainant arrived at the Clearwater RCMP detachment to report a theft from his car at approximately 2:35 p.m. from a parking lot of a local grocery in the 300 block of Murtle Crescent in Clearwater.
“The complainant had left the car unlocked while shopping and returned to find the rear hatch open and approximately $1,000 dollars worth of property missing which included: two pairs of binoculars, an electric alarm clock, two charging blocks with cables, a camera tripod, BOSE headphones blue in colour, and toiletry items,” said Simpson.
There were no serial numbers available and the items were valued as a rough estimate.
Const. Maibauer conducted patrols and spoke with local businesses in the area. In light of this incident police are again reminding everyone to ensure their vehicles, homes and belongings are locked and secured.
On Friday, July 4 at 7:05 p.m., Const. Van Woudenberg was travelling southbound on the Old North Thompson Highway passing Dutch Lake, at a 30 km/h playground zone, when he observed a Ford pickup driving towards him doing an estimated 60 km/h.
Radar confirmed the truck was going 63 km/h.
Const. Van Woudenberg wheeled around and activated his emergency lights and sirens, Simpson said, noting the truck did not immediately pull over and Const. Van Woudenberg observed it cross well over the centre line before correcting and then pulling over.
"The 40-year-old male driver and registered owner out of Courtney, B.C. immediately displayed signs of impairment by alcohol," Simpson said, noting a strong smell of liquor immediately was noticeable on approaching him."
An Alcohol Screening Device (ASD) demand was read to the driver. He provided two breaths both of which indicated a fail.
Simpson said the truck was impounded and taken to a local tow company and a 90-day prohibition from driving was served and the driver walked with his dog to a nearby hotel.
