A report submitted to Williams Lake City Council on Nov. 29 by CAO Brian Carruthers shows the 10 corporate priorities set out by council at the beginning of its term in 2008 were achieved.
Those priorities included developing a community safety strategy, improving relations with First Nations, creating affordable housing, developing and implementing an arts and culture plan, updating the City’s economic strategy, supporting the Prosperity mine project, developing and implementing a road pavement plan, developing an integrated community sustainability plan, pursuing downtown development and completing a service delivery review.
“Staff did a great job,” Cook said.
Carruthers told council it’s been gratifying to look back and see how much was accomplished.
Coun. Laurie Walters, who was new to council in 2008, said she soon learned to rely and value staff’s input.
“Kudos to all involved,” Walters said. In his report, Carruthers also outlined 10 additional accomplishments achieved outside of the corporate priorities, such as new bylaws, an improved grant-in-aid application process, and successful lobbying of the federal government to retain Nav Canada flights into the Williams Lake airport and $3 million from the provincial government for the Cariboo Chilcoltin Beetle Action Coalition.
Cook said in the next term, goals set by council should be posted and reported out on the City’s website so the community can see when council is meeting its own goals.
