City councillor and one-term mayor Ivan Bonnell confirmed this week he plans to run again in the October municipal election.
At the end of this term, he will have 21 years serving on council under his belt.
As to why he is keen to continue, Bonnell said he believes Williams Lake has a bright future.
“I have got the experience and I’m willing to step forward and put my name in the hat for the community’s consideration for another term.”
Bonnell said the strategic direction council has set over the last two years has been positive.
“We have been working very diligently on pursuing that direction. We’ve been very good at maintaining fiscal aspects of the community I think.”
While he has been involved with all of council’s committees, during the last term his portfolio has been public works and community services.
“We’re getting caught up with the roads,” he added.

Bonnell moved to Williams Lake in 1992 to work for Canada Post and retired after 24 years almost two years ago.
He’s in his “sophomore” year of retirement and enjoying it.
“It takes you four years to say you are fully retired, because you have to settle yourself down. When I do successfully graduate to that full retirement, I will look forward to living that life of a retiree.”
Councillors Scott Nelson, Jason Ryll and Craig Smith, along with Mayor Walt Cobb confirmed earlier they also plan to seek re-election, while school trustee Sheila Boehm, realtor Michael Jones and mine worker Dave Moore have indicated they plan to run also.
Bonnell said he’d been talking to people during the summer about the fact he plans to run again, but was making it official this week.
