A local mine worker is planning to run for Williams Lake city council in the upcoming municipal election in October.
Dave Moore said he was born and raised in the lakecity.
“I have always had good luck with Williams Lake and it’s always treated me well,” Moore told the Tribune. “Hopefully I can give some of that back.”
Moore has worked as a blaster at Taseko Gibraltar for 11 years and before that worked in construction doing sewer and water and underground infrastructure.
“My dad had a backhoe business in town when he was alive. He was here since 1954.”
As for why he’s decided to enter politics for the first time, Moore listed red tape contractors face at city hall, not enough for youth to do in Williams Lake, the number of empty buildings in the downtown core and the need for a water filtration system as his top concerns.
“We don’t have bad drinking water, but it can be improved,” he said. “Some of the bigger cities have water filtration systems. It costs a lot to put them in but then you get 100 per cent pure water that will only make people healthier in the long run.”

Eyeing the future, Moore said he would like to see a fire guard built around the city and if he was elected on council would be keen to talk with ranchers and local residents in the area about it.
One of the aspects about Williams Lake he loves is its multiculturalism.
“I think we live in harmony and I think we need more people from different cultures moving here.”
He also said he thinks the Art Walk and Sale is a great asset because it promotes Williams Lake and gives people an idea of the various artists in the area.

As for the empty buildings in the downtown core, Moore is hopeful the City can bring more businesses into town.
“I think it’s vital to have a good downtown core.”
Moore said he picked up the nomination package from the city and is going through it to see what being in office entails.
“I have help from a few people that were politicians in the past,” he added. “It’s a large commitment, but one that would be a good experience in life.”
Moore is married to his wife of 30 years, Theresa, and has a stepdaughter Tara and stepson Shannon.
Other confirmed candidates are Mayor Walt Cobb, Coun. Craig Smith, Coun. Jason Ryll, Coun. Scott Nelson, realtor Michael Jones and chiropractor and school trustee Sheila Boehm.
