Williams Lake Mustangs end season with thank you barbecue

While they may not have won the first round of the playoffs, the Williams Lake Mustangs nabbed a large fan base.

The Williams Lake Mustangs nabbed a large fan base through the season and had the opportunity to meet some of them face to face Monday, March 10. 

During a barbecue to thank the community held in the parking lot at United Floors, members of the community stopped by to grab autographs and thank the players in person. 

Even Samantha Fradette, who sang the national anthem at the home games, brought her jersey for players to sign as did one of her daughters. 

Game attendance was good during the regular season and at the final game in Williams Lake on Sunday, March 9 there were 1,043 in attendance. 

While they lost that final game, the team's logistics and operations manager Leslie Rowse it was nice for the team to end the season in front of the home crowd. 

During the playoffs the Mustangs won two games and lost four against the 100 Mile House Wranglers. 

Stats for the team's top five players from the Kootenay Junior International Hockey League show JP Desabrais garnered 23 goals, 28 assists, during the regular season, plus six assists during playoffs. 

Kaelen Swanson scored 22 goals, had 26 assists during the regular season, and two assists during playoffs. 

Asher Lucas got 18 goals and 18 assists during the regular season and five goals and one assist during playoffs. 

Declan Pockock scored 19 goals and had 25 assists during regular season games and two goals and one assist during playoffs. 

Logan Hauk got 21 goals and 18 assists in regular season action, plus two goals and two assists during playoffs. 

Other playoff goals were scored by Brendan Calahasen, Matthew Keylor and Noah Pears who all scored one. 

Next up, said head coach and general manager Tyrel Lucas, will be a the Spring ID camp April 4 - 6 in Williams Lake. 

He agreed the team has come along way in its first year in Williams Lake.
