Williams Lake Mustangs lost on home ice against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 5-2 on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The Mustangs came out strong at the beginning of the game and held that strength until Brett Moch of the Nitehawks scored the game's first goal during the last minute of the first period.
When the game resumed, the Mustangs seemed to struggle through the second period while the Nitehawks were dominating.
Nitehawks Brady Magarrell scored two goals and Ty Noseworthy score one, closing the second period with a 4-0 lead.
It was during the third period the Mustangs found their footing.
Asher Lucas scored his 14th goal of the season, with assist from Noah Pears.
Boris Hristov with the Nitehawks answered with a fifth goal.
Kaelen Swanson then scored his 10th goal of the season for the Mustangs assisted by Logan Hauk and Dawson Ernst.
Halfway through the game, Mustangs goalie Alex Jessey was replaced by Evan Leggett.
On Friday night, Dec. 13, the Mustangs played a closer game against the Kamloops Storm, with Storm winning 4-3.
Hunter O'Neal scored for the Mustangs, unassisted, with less than two minutes in the first period.
There were no goals in the second period.
In the third period Mustangs Joseph Krukowski scored, unassisted, followed by Matthew Keylor, Declan Pocock assist.
Joseph's efforts garnered him a star of the game.
Logan Hauk and Brady Magarrell were named stars of the game on Saturday night.
Coming up the Mustangs will play Quesnel River Rush on home ice Friday, Dec. 20. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, they will travel out of town to play the Chase Heat.
Recently KIJHL featured Mustangs Asher Lucas and Kaelen Swanson, who have been friends since they were seven-years-old, in video.
Last month Declan Pocock was named top defenceman in the KIJHL November three stars roster.
In 21 games, Pocock had 23 points, which ranked him fifth among all KIJHL blueliners and first for rookies.
