Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club welcomes skiers

Cross-country skiers in Williams Lake can warm up in the new daylodge and make some tracks on the trails at Bull Mountain thanks to more snow

The Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club is welcoming skiers back to the trails at Bull Mountain, finally able to take full advantage of their new facility.

After a slow start to the snow season, the club was able to get out and groom trails with their brand new PistenBully 100 snow groomer on Friday, Dec. 27 after 15 cm of snow fell over the previous day and night.

Dave Skarra was all smiles after his first turn around the trails on the new groomer, and so far it appears to be streamlining their grooming process.

The machine is more fuel-efficient and has an articulating track setter, which allows the groomer to travel a bit faster while still making a good track for skiers.

The corduroy was clean and crisp over the weekend, with some happy skiers posting some good reviews on the group's Facebook page.

The new daylodge gives skiers a great spot to warm up and the facility will begin to have more regular hours and rental skis – both skate and classic – once the holidays are over and volunteers set a regular schedule.

There are still some early season hazards, especially on the lower trails and in spots more sheltered from snowfall, however most trails are open and track set.

Young skiers have also started their learning programs, with youth programs from under five years of age up to 12 on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Adult programs will begin in January as well, from masters skis and ladies' night social skis.
