The Cariboo Run Crew will be hosting their second annual trail race on June 16, with a new name and location.
This year, the event will be called Westsyde Boogie Trail Race and will begin and end in the Williams Lake River Valley.
Cariboo Run Crew’s Kim Lewis said she’s happy the River Valley is open once again and the club can showcase another area of local trail networks. She said the central location will be good for the event as well. Runners will start and end in the River Valley.
There will be a 5 km and 15 km option, with 30 spots in each event and Lewis said the loops will have it all, elevation gain, flowy single track, and downhill.
“But still amazing views the whole way,” she said, noting she loves how participants get to see some of the incredible nature we have in Williams Lake.
With the event aimed to be as eco-friendly as possible as well, it is a cupless event, so participants are encouraged to bring their own vessel to carry liquids. Water and electrolytes will be provided.
Runners can register via links on the Cariboo Run Crews’ social media pages, their website: caribooruncrew.com, or with a paper registration available at Tasco. Registration is limited to those ages 13 and up.
Williams Lake Cycling Club has once again kindly donated their chip timers. Race organizers are asking mountain bikers and other trail users to stay off of the Westyde trails from 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 16 until about 12:30 p.m. The 15 km loop racers will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5 km loop racers will start at 8:30 a.m.
Lewis said thanks to generous support from local businesses, there are lots of prizes to be won and the run crew will be providing medals to winners as well.
Last year, the race took place on the Fox Mountain Trail Network and the event drew participants from Quesnel, Prince George and Kamloops. Visitors in the community from South Africa and Vancouver also participated.
