PHOTOS: Williams Lake Mustangs see 5-3 defeat by Nelson Maple Leafs

The Williams Lake Mustangs lost to the Nelson Maple Leafs on home ice Friday, Oct. 11 with a final score of 5-3.

In Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday, Oct. 11, the Williams Lake Mustangs lost to the Nelson Maple Leafs on home ice with a final score of 5-3. 

After coming up behind a 3-0 lead against them, the Williams Lake Mustangs played a stronger second and third period. 

Kaelen Swanson scored a goal in the second, Dawson Ernst and Kaden Ernst assist. 

In the third period Asher Lucas scored two goals - the first one Kaelen Swanson and Noah Pears and the second one unassisted. 

It was 4-3 in the third period when the Mustangs pulled their goalie with only a few minutes left in the game. 

The Leafs scored on the empty net, giving them the 5-3 lead. 

Mustangs goalie Jasper Tait made 43 saves while Leafs goalie Ryan Hicks made 32. 

It was also family appreciation night for the Mustangs with many people travelling from other areas to watch the game, including Tyler Schmidt's family who are originally from Calgary but now live in Texas. 

The Mustangs play again Saturday, Oct. 12 against the Grand Forks Bruins. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
