Another minor lacrosse season is underway in Williams Lake.

The BigHorns Lacrosse Association is set to compete all over the province as they look ahead to a busy season. Practices are now in full swing, and vice president Jamie Beaulne says they are hoping to keep growing in participation.

“We are excited about the season coming up,” he said. “We have started practice but are still looking for players.”

BigHorns Lacrosse currently has 60 kids registered and is looking to add to that number before the regular season begins. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Rink 2 at the Cariboo Memorial Arena. U7, U9, U11 and U13 practice is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and U15 and U17 practice is at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Following practices, there will be a scrimmage until 8 p.m.

Junior U21 games are every Wednesday night at Cariboo Memorial from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting May 1.

Beaulne said the U7 and U9 teams are “a lot of fun,” and they are currently planning matches against Prince George, Quesnel and Mackenzie this season.

As for the U17 squad, they are hoping to participate in at least two tournaments this year, with one in Richmond from May 17 to May 19, and one in Kelowna from June 7 to June 9.

The association has a handful of players who will be trying out for Team BC in Langley on May 17 as well.

The BigHorns will also be starting a new team this year, a junior team with players from Williams Lake. The exhibition team will be a part of the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League.

“We will be starting practice for the junior team at the end of April,” Beaulne explained. “[We] hope to play Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon teams in May.”
