Just over 900 people attended the Williams Lake Mustangs home game Saturday, Oct. 19 against the 100 Mile House Wranglers.
Billed as the first of a series of retro alumni games being organized by the Mustangs, the evening was also an opportunity to unveil the team's alumni jerseys.
The Mustangs lost the game 5-4 in an overtime shoot-out.
For the Mustangs, Tyson Carter scored the first goal, assisted by Kaden Ernst and Jacob Shtaif, while Declan Pocock got the second goal, with assist from Asher Lucas and Kaelen Swanson.
During the second period, Jacob Shtaif scored, assisted by Tate Rigel and Mathew Hufty, followed by Declan Pockock, unassisted.
The game's goals were Declan's first of the season.
Goalie Jasper Tait made 40 saves.
On Friday, the Mustangs travelled to 100 Mile House to play the Wranglers.
In that game, the Mustangs lost 6-1.
A list provided to the Tribune with the names of alumni who attended the game included Dave Chappel, Terry Cross, Steve Carpenter, Craig Chapman, Craig Leggett, Doyle Flaherty, Tim O'Coffey, Troy Larden, Sheldon Nohr, Rob Dubois, Derek Kohnke, Owen Thomas, Cubby Riplinger, Mark Straza, Darcy Rivet, Ross Burke, Rob Clark, Vince Kozuki, Matt Van Horlick, Danny Latin, Jerry Watson, Al Novakowski, Troy Weil, Zane Testawich, Dave Smith, Trent Leggett, Mike Goodwin and John Van Horlick, the longest serving head coach.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the KIJHL announced Jasper Tait has been traded to the Grand Forks Boarder Bruins for forward JP Desabrais and goalie Alex Jessey.
"We are grateful for Tait's contribution and lasting impact he brought to the Mustangs franchise. Even in the short time he was here, his abilities made a significant impact, both in his commitment to the game and our community," noted a social media post on the team's Facebook page. "Good luck Jasper."
This coming weekend the Mustangs are out of town playing Kimberly on Friday, Oct. 25, Fernie on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Creston Valley on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The next alumni games will be Saturday, Nov. 2, Saturday, Dec. 14 in 2024, Saturday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 1 in 2025.
