The Rock the House bonspiel organized by the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) in Williams Lake raised over $5,000 for local charities on Feb. 10.
The event was supported by vendors, mines, and an appearance by special guest Brendan Bottcher of Team Bottcher Alberta.
The annual Rock the House bonspiel at the Williams Lake Curling Club draws personnel from the mining industry out to play in the name of charity.
Gibraltar Mines and Mount Polley Mine employees along with mining equipment and service suppliers participating.
Money raised will go towards local charities and $2,725 already being donated to BGC Williams Lake in support of local youth programs.
Spartan Controls sponsored Team Bottcher skip Brendan Bottcher to participate in the bonspiel.
Bottcher arrived early, participating in the junior curlers warm up with team coach Rick Miller and the junior curling team that headed to the B.C. Winter games.
He also gave a group lesson to attendees to start the bonspiel and later provided curling shots during the games as “Let a Pro Take Your Shot” which helped raise money during the event.
At times, Bottcher was seen throwing a rock for one team and then throwing the opposing shot for the other.
As well, The CIM North Central Branch is very grateful to Brendan Bottcher for donating a signed Team Canada curling jersey’s that were auctioned off during the event.
CIM North Central Branch is honored by the prizes and money donated including by both Mount Polley and Gibraltar, vendors, and of course Brendan Bottcher with Spartan Controls. We look forward to our next annual Bonspiel in Williams Lake in 2025.
