“It’s good healthy fun. We are competitive but not world cup level," said Kristoffer Harris.

Williams Lake Men’s Soccer is gearing up for its outdoor season.

With registration underway, Kristoffer Harris said it’s always more of a challenge getting more players than the league sees for its indoor season which will be wrapping up at the end of April.

Last year there were four teams playing outdoor soccer. Games are held Mondays and Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and normally get underway about mid-May, depending on how wet the spring has been for the fields at Esler.

The league is for people who have played previously and even if it’s been a few years, Harris said.

“It’s good healthy fun,” he added. “We are competitive but not world cup level.”

Players as young as 16-years-old are welcome to join, he added.

A team made up of 13 local players will be competing at BC Place on Sunday, April 13, in a tournament that raises funds for Boys and Girls Club Canada and the BC Cancer Society.

“We did it last year,” Harris said. “It’s super cool. BC Stadium is where the 2026 World Cup will be held.”

During the tournament they will play at least eight games in one day, with seven-a-side. The games are 20 minutes long.

Playoffs for the indoor season will take place over the next few weeks between Beercalona and Fox Mountain Brewing, with the final game scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, at 8 p.m. at Lake City Secondary School’s gym, followed by an awards ceremony at Oliver’s Pub.

Oliver's is the indoor league's main sponsor and Cariboo GM is the outdoor league's main sponsor, Harris said.

Harris encourages anyone who is interested to attend the final game or check out the league’s Facebook page for registration information.

Registration costs for outdoor soccer are $120 before April 22 and $150 after.
