A local organization that supports active kids is getting set to participate in a fundraiser.

The Williams Lake chapter of KidSport will be taking part in the Move430 challenge, a virtual event that involves at least 30 minutes of moving each day in April. The fundraiser runs from April 1 to April 30 and costs $30 to participate, with 100 per cent of the registration fees going towards helping kids play sports.

The Move430 fundraiser can include physical activities such as running, walking, hiking, climbing, yoga, cycling, swimming, working out or anything else that involves moving for 30 minutes per day. Participants can track their progress online to complete the challenge.

KidSport envisions a Canada where all children have the opportunity to participate in sport, and their mission is to support those who need financial assistance with sport registration fees and equipment costs. The organization was launched in 1993 by the board and staff at Sport BC as a way to help address the challenges faced by many families when registering their children in organized sport.

“We believe that the power of sport participation promotes the development of children’s social, mental and physical well being,” their website states. “Through increasing access to quality sport programs, KidSpot strengthens communities across Canada.”

KidSport Williams Lake provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees for all kids aged 18 and under so that they can play a season of sport. They accept applications and administers grants of up to $300 per child a year.

Williams Lake RCMP Cpl. and local KidSport committee member Fraser Bjornson has competed in many KidSport fundraisers over the years, calling KidSport “such a worthwhile organization,” and is excited to participate in the upcoming Move430 challenge.

“Move430 is a commitment,” he said. “All of the funds raised go directly to our local chapter.”
