First sanctioned disc golf tournament in Williams Lake a success

The rain held off for most of the tournament day

Athletes competed in the first-ever Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA)-sanctioned tournament held in Williams Lake on Saturday, May 10.

Fifty players, more than half from out of town, joined locals for The Battle in Botianio, where they each played two rounds at the popular downtown course. 

Ken Heidema of Williams Lake got an ace on the ninth hole. 

His was the only one of the tournament, which meant he took home a cash prize. 

In the mixed pro open

"It took it took a lot of effort from the club, the city, and everyone involved in planning the tournament," said organizers Matt LeBourdais and Nicholas Lamb-Yorski. "We learned so much about how to run a tournament, and we also learned how everyone in this town, and the people that travel here to play know what we have in Williams Lake for disc golf is really special." 

They said they are already planning the next one.
