CVWC hands out hardware at 20th annual awards banquet

The Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club celebrated their 20th annual awards banquet last month. More than 100 wrestlers and families gathered to honour the junior and senior club members.

The Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club celebrated their 20th annual awards banquet last month. More than 100 wrestlers and families gathered to honour the junior and senior club members.

"Among the highlights were the heartfelt slideshows capturing memorable moments of the year and a special tribute honouring the graduating wrestlers for their commitment and contribution to the club," said head coach Nick Zuback.

A host of thank-yous were proffered to parents, sponsors, and other supporters, including Volunteers of the Year, Keith and Charlene Olson, but the night was in celebration of the athletes. 

The ceremony paid tribute to the graduating seniors, including Carter Zuback, Ross Meiner, Zach Staicesku, Rose Wu, Savanna Screaton, Rui Wang, Bradley Ludvigson, and Aryan Parhar.

Awards included: Andrew Grobbelaar (Male Rookie of the Year), Wish Keirstead (Female Rookie of the Year), Elijah Cote (Most Improved Male), Nina Steeves (Most Improved Female), Ross Meiner (Most Outstanding Match among males), Sophia Yoon (Most Outstanding Match among females), Aryan Parhar (Male Outstanding Sportsmanship), Elyssa Olson (Female Outstanding Sportsmanship), Zach Staicesku (Male Heart Award), Amelia Korchinski (Female Heart Award), Carter Zuback (Male Inspirational Leader), Emma Greenwood (Female Inspirational Leader), and the Most Outstanding Wrestlers: Bradyen Zuback, Antonio Iannidardo, and Rose Wu.

"These remarkable individuals exemplify the values of dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship at the heart of the Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club," Zuback said. "Their achievements inspire the wrestling community and showcase the heights that can be reached through passion, hard work, and commitment to excellence."
