Cariboo Archers competed in Quesnel the weekend of June 21, bringing home some hardware after a 3D shoot in the north Cariboo town.
The Quesnel River Archers hosted the BC Archery Association Provincial 3D Championships this past weekend and quite a number of Cariboo Archers attended.
Cariboo Archers 60+ Club members fared very well, reported Al Campsall.
In his first BC Championships, Memphis Lachapelle finished fifth. After Saturday, Heidi Schaer was in fourth and Lily Fraser was in fifth, but both came back to post superb scores on Sunday and move up to third and first respectively (Heidi’s score improved by 34 points while Lily’s improved by 29).
"Those are very impressive improvements," said coach Campsall.
Hudson Huska, topped the 260+ kids. The 14-year-old scored 832 points, beating almost all men shooting from the same stake, said Campsall.
Fred Streleoff and Al Campsall were selected for the B.C. team heading to Lac La Biche for the Canadian Championships this summer, while several others did not make the team. Spots on the team are decided using a handicapping system designed to make fair comparisons across shooting categories (based on historical score results from Canadian Championships).
Campsall said the handicapping system was rendered less fair this year due to changes in stake placement. He believed this made the competition easier than it had previously been for archers shooting from certain stakes, giving some archers’ categories an advantage.
