Local archer Al Campsall won silver for Canada in archery at the Pan American Masters Games in Cleveland, Ohio.
The shooting took place July 12-14 and Campsall and his wife Raeleen travelled down for the competition, where he represented Canada for the eighth time. The silver is his fourth medal from the games, having won one gold, another silver, and one bronze during previous games.
Campsall competed in target archery, and shot 144 arrows over two days initially, at which point he was leading the competition. On the final day, he competed against the all-ages champion of Trinidad and Tobago, each of the men shooting five ends of three arrows each.
Campsall lost by one point, after having been ahead by four points going into the fourth of five ends, but said he made two poor shots to lose his lead.
"Our arrows provided identical scores on the last three-arrow end," said Campsall.
"I was disappointed with my 'fall from grace' on the one end, but very happy to stand on the podium representing Canada wearing my silver medal."
The competition included more than 200 archers from all over the Americas and the world.
Campsall said Cariboo Archers Lily and Cara Fraser were competing in the Best of the West shoot-offs in Abbotsford for a 3D animal event recently as well and now he and the mother-daughter duo will soon travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick for Canadian Championship competition.
The trio will all be competing in 3D Championships, then the Field Championship and finally the Target Championships.
"I am very excited for both of my students, as they have improved significantly this year," said Campsall, noting he hopes to improve his Canadian gold medal count to 22.
