Organizers of the Indoor Spring Rodeo Classic are calling all barrel racers to compete for chance to race in front of the cheering crowds and win cash prizes.

There will be open barrel racing held Thursday evening, April 18, as a qualifier for the April 19, 20 and 21 ladies, junior and peewee barrel racing events at the rodeos.

“We want to open it up to as many as possible, with the top 20 competing at the rodeo,” said organizer Richard Kohlen. The Laughing Loon is sponsoring the Thursday event.

The qualifier will see all the contestants make a run on the Thursday, with the top 20 ladies and top five junior and peewee contestants advancing to the paid performances.

Rodeo organizers have made the events more lucrative for cowboys this year, with prize money increased to $5,000 per major event as well as trophy buckles for the winner of each event created by local artisan Brian Poffenroth of Riske Creek.
