40th Annual Big Lake Fishing Derby nets results

Rick Dubreuil caught the weekend's biggest fish - a rainbow trout weighing 1020 grams

The 40th Annual Big Lake Fishing Derby took place the first weekend in June. 

Organizers said despite the heavy rain on Saturday, the weekend delivered a lot of fun and prizes. 

Marianne Woods with the Big Lake Community Association shared the weekend's results with the Tribune, saying they had 200 participants.

Adult - Rainbow Trout

First - Rick Dubreuil, 1020 grams

Second -Pat Griffin, 910 grams

Third - Gil Van Riel, 855 grams

Teen - Rainbow Trout

First - Lucas Gentles, 765 grams

Second - Jacob Burnham, 660 grams

Third - Nathan Keene, 625 grams

Child - Rainbow Trout

First - Riley Munt, 710 grams

Second - Avery Smith, 700 grams

Third - Connor Bryant, 690 grams

Largest Kokanee

Henry Hengstler, 590 grams

Largest Sucker

Jack Munn, 1295 grams

Toni Hooker - $1,000 registration draw winner

Deb Howes - ATV draw winner

The derby was made possible by many volunteers and generous sponsors. 

On Father's Day, June 15, the community will be having a pancake breakfast at the firehall from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and there will be heritage market on Saturday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Big Lake Heritage Site. The first one was held on May 24, and was popular.
