A draft plan to make walking, cycling and other forms of active transportation safer in the city of Williams Lake will be revealed as part of the third phase of a project by the city.
As part of the next round of community engagement an open house will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the Gibraltar Room from 3-7 p.m. to invite feedback on the draft plan and answer questions.
In an effort to ensure safe routes for people of all ages and abilities, the city has hired the consulting firm Urban Systems to work with the city and the active transportation working group to create an active transportation network plan. They have been working on the project since last fall, identifying issues and priorities and possible routes.
The consultants received 700 responses to their initial survey looking for input on how to make it easier for people to move around the city, and the current state of active transportation in Williams Lake.
Urban Systems and the working group are now in the third phase of the project, with a draft plan based on the feedback they received and have recommendations and projects identified.
A survey will also be available online to provide feedback via the city's website, starting Feb. 24, 2025.
