The city of Williams Lake is reminding the public the river valley is still closed as it is an ongoing active emergency response zone.
While no immediate fire danger still exists, however, the area will need assessment and work before it can reopen to the pubic.
“The wildfire danger has been largely addressed, but many other hazards remain,” said Brendan Foote, city emergency operations centre director.
“Once we receive a geotechnical assessment and address danger trees burned or compromised in the fire, we can begin to chart a path forward for reopening, but as of now it is not safe for members of the public to be recreating in the river valley.”
There were less than 10 hot spots left on the fire as of Aug. 2, said the city.
Power has been restored to the city lagoons, and danger trees along the power line have been removed.
Heavy machinery and danger tree falling were expected to be ongoing in the river valley. For updates on the status of the river valley check www.williamslake.ca.
