Hundreds of students and job-seekers will be ready to make inquiries when the Williams Lake Job Fair makes its return next month.
Coordinated by Supporting Aboriginal Growth & Empowerment (S.A.G.E) Trainers and sponsored by the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training and Employment Centre (CCATEC), the two-day event will take place in the Gibraltar Room of the Cariboo Memorial Complex on Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9, starting with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on May 8. The fair is also supported by provincial funding.
The Williams Lake Job Fair started off as a small event in Elks Hall and has evolved into a larger fair that is usually held every second year. Executive director of S.A.G.E Trainers, Yvonne Funk, says the fair brings communities together, as there is fun, knowledge and sense of community.
“It is a great event to be a part of,” she said. “In the past, we have had up to 1,000 people attend and participate in the two-day job fair.”
The fair will provide an opportunity for the community to meet potential employers, drop off their resume and research their future and career goals. There will be up to 50 employer exhibit booth, guest speakers, entertainment and prizes, including door prizes and a $500 pre-paid Visa. S.A.G.E. Trainers works extensively in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, offering workshops, training programs, cultural camps, retreats and counselling to a diverse range of First Nations communities and organizations.
It has been locally owned and operated for over 25 years. The CCATEC is a non-profit society that provides programs and services to all First Nations living in the Cariboo Chilcotin region, and this job fair is an opportunity to train them to be successful in the job market. Students from all over the Williams Lake region, including Quesnel and 100 Mile House, are invited to attend.
