The WilliamsLake Fire Department quickly extinguished a brush fire in a downtown parking lot Friday evening, behind the BMO (Bank of Montreal).
Fire chief Evan Dean said the call came in about 7:30 p.m.
"It spread through the accumulated leaves and into some small juniper bushes, so it looked more severe that it was," he told the Tribune.
The fire was extinguished by one engine crew of four firefighters who were on scene for 15 minutes.
While the cause is unknown, there were no buildings or values threatened and no injuries, he confirmed.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Dean said they did not find anything that led them to believe the fire was started by the unhoused.
"It was warm and fairly breezy that day, could have been a cigarette or even hot exhaust."
When asked if he knows where the unhoused have been staying now as there does not seem to be anybody camping in the designated spot at Boitanio Park, Dean said the bylaw team has been wondering the same thing.
