Williams Lake city councillor Michael Moses requested a leave of absence from his role on council at the regular council meeting Sept. 10.

Moses is running to become a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Oct. 19 B.C. election as the NDP candidate for Cariboo Chilcotin.

Council unanimously supported the request for an unpaid leave of absence for Moses from Sept. 18 to Oct. 31.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor said the leave would allow Moses to concentrate on his campaign.

Moses said it is an honour and a privilege to serve with his fellow council members and staff.

"I'm excited by the opportunity to potentially represent the Cariboo Chilcotin," he said.

Rathor joked about who Moses gave his vote to.

"I appreciate each and every council member," said Rathor.

"When we work together we are way, way stronger," he said.

The riding of Cariboo Chilcotin currently has three candidates running: incumbent MLA Lorne Doerkson is running for the Conservative Party, Moses is running for the NDP and John Kidder is running for the Green Party. United Party (formerly BC Liberal Party) candidate Michael Grenier has withdrawn his candidacy.
