Williams Lake business owner asks citizens to keep eyes open

An incident along Mackenzie Avenue has a business owner asking the public to keep a look out and report anything suspicious

A Williams Lake business owner is grateful things weren't worse after what appears to be an attempted fuel theft overnight on May 6.

Cathy Rosner, owner of Cool Clear Water, said her employees arrived to work in the morning of May 7 to a strong smell of gasoline.

There was a large amount of gas on the parking lot, and when staff tried to start one of the business's Ford box delivery truck, they realized a hole had been drilled in the fuel tank.

Rosner said she isn't sure whether the people who drilled the hole weren't prepared for the amount of fuel which came from the vehicle or if they were interrupted, but there was a large amount of fuel spilled across the parking lot as a result.

"It's a miracle nobody put a light to that, I can't even imagine what would have happened," she said. Rosner said the incident was reported to RCMP, who did attend the scene as well.

She was on a day off and wasn't able to stop in to see the damage and resulting spill herself, however her husband went to take a look.

Rosner said she is grateful the damage wasn't even worse and is asking people to keep their eyes open as they go by any businesses on Mackenzie Avenue.

She said they will be adjusting the parking of the trucks so they are in better view of the security cameras and adding a larger security light to help deter another incident.

She said her business hasn't experienced as many issues as others in the area, and is grateful the damage was limited to what it was.

"Report anything if you see anything that's even the least bit suspicious, that's how we're going to have to catch these people," she said.
