City council voted to once again give their support for the Indoor Spring Classic Rodeo through the use of city staff time and equipment.

At the April 1, 2025 regular city council meeting, council unanimously supported the move to assist with the event put on by the Interior Rodeo Event Association.

The city will donate staff time and the use of dump trucks and a loader to help move the dirt into the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The indoor rodeo event transforms Rink 1 into an indoor rodeo arena. Work began this week, starting April 14 and trucks will then arrive to remove the dirt on Tuesday, April 22, after the rodeo and Easter holiday are complete.

The city has supported the event for many years, providing a loader and three single axle dump trucks in the past, with this year's request for two dump trucks and a loader a slightly reduced support request.

"The city has been doing this work for years and years and years, as far as I can remember," said Mayor Surinderpal Rathor.

He encouraged everyone to participate in the indoor rodeo and requested staff also provide a number for the city in terms of the cost to the city for this in-kind support for information.

The staff report gave a rough estimate the in-kind costs of the labour and equipment, including fuel, at $2,300.
