City council voted in favour of a grant application to Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) to continue building economic development capacity.
Council supported a 2025 application by staff for NDIT funds up to $50,000 to help offset the wages of the economic development manager.
The city applies for the grant from NDIT every year to support economic development projects.
The council voted unanimously to support the application for funds to help build capacity. Beth Veenkamp has been working on economic development for the city since 2017 and is the current manager of economic development.
Veenkamp said she provides an application each year to NDIT for the funding, listing some of the many projects she works on to help with economic development in the city.
With her focus shifted off of Atlantic Power's Williams Lake plant after an agreement between Atlantic Power and BC Hydro was announced last week, Veenkamp said she'll continue work on the Cariboo Wood Innovation Hub project, developing the official community plan, expansion and opportunities at the Williams Lake Regional Airport and administrating the business facade improvement grant program.
