Members of Guru Nanak Sikh Temple in Williams Lake have been preparing food each day as the community celebrates Vaisakhi.
Since Monday, many women have gathered in the kitchen to cook meals to serve as the Sikh Holy Book is being read upstairs.
The book is considered the living Guru of the Sikhs and reading of it will continue through until Sunday.
Three Sikh priests from India are in Williams Lake to play music every evening, which temple member Kulwinder Saini said has been "beautiful.'
The priests were visiting in Vancouver before coming to Williams Lake.
"One of them has never been to Williams Lake before but two of them have," Saini said.
Balwinder Mattu moved to Williams Lake 20 years ago and said Vaisakhi is an important time for her.
"It's my religious festival," she said. "We all like it."
Saini and Mattu do miss the scope of Vaisakhi celebrations back in India, but Saini was in Vancouver and Surrey last weekend celebrating with 700,000 people, she said.
Amarjit Khakh said she was in Surrey as well for her daughter's wedding.
"There the different families make food and set up tents outside their homes to serve it," she said of the Lower Mainland.
Khakh said everyone in Williams Lake is invited to come and enjoy meals at the temple throughout the weekend.
The food is all vegetarian and being made fresh every single day.
A Vaisakhi ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26 when men and women will prepare to raise the flag outside the temple.
Guru Nanak Sikh Temple is located at 3024 Mackenzie Ave. North and this July will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
"People will be coming back who used to live here for the celebration," said Khakh.
