Update: Road cleared at Highway 97 45 km south of Quesnel continues

The road is closed in both directions

Update:

The cause of the fire is believed to be due to mechanical failures in the truck, Quesnel RCMP said. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle safely and there were no injuries related to the incident they added.

Traffic was kept to single-lane alternating while first responders waited for the vehicle to cool off enough to move.

The road has reopened fully on Highway 97, 45 km south of Quesnel.

A vehicle fire has caused Highway 97 to be closed in both directions 45 kilometres south of Quesnel on Friday, Oct. 11. 

DriveBC notes it is at Melville Road and for the public to expect delays. 

The next update will be 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 12.
