The Cariboo Regional District and the B.C. Government Employees Union (BCGEU) are currently engaged in negotiations for a new collective agreement.
A contract with 109 BCGEU employees working at the CRD expired in November 2023.
“We are still actively engaged in negotiations and hopeful for a positive outcome,” said CRD chief administrative officer Murray Daly.
Since Friday, April 12, after receiving a few tips, the Tribune has been asking the BCGEU if the employees have voted to strike, but has received no response.
If the employees choose to strike, the union is required to issue 72-hour notice, Daly said.
“We would then put out communication about our contingency plan and how we are going to manage thing if that were to occur,” Daly said.
CRD chair Margo Wagner deferred comment to Daly.
