Qualicum Beach has adopted a new sponsorship policy to help non-profit organizations stage special events.
Council, at its regular meeting on May 14, approved the policy that includes a $10,000 allocation included in the 2025-2029 financial plan.
The new policy aims to support non-proft community groups in town with organizing special events staff indicated are geared towards enhancing "life on the streets" in Qualicum Beach to advance tourism and promote small business.
To make this sponsorship policy known to non-profit organizations, the application for this year's intake will be accepted until July 31. Only registered non-profit societies can apply for funding. Staff will shortlist eligible applicants and they will be presented to council for consideration in September.
In the succeeding years, the deadline to apply will be earlier, March 31 and approval will be made in April. Director of Corporate Services and Deputy CAO, Heather Svensen, said the early deadline will give societies more opportunity to use the funding in that calendar year.
A maximum funding amount of $2,500 per year, per local non-proftt organization and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
