Not even church could save a Salmon Arm man from getting caught for impaired driving.

At 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 2, an RCMP officer on patrol watched a black Lincoln MKX fail to stop at a stop sign on Lakeshore Drive W and 10 Street SW.

"A traffic stop was initiated with the 61-year-old male driver, who claimed to be heading home after attending a church service," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release. "Despite it being Sunday, the officer suspected it was a little early for church service to already be over."

According to RCMP, the driver had slightly slurred speech and struggled to locate his insurance papers, raising the officer's suspicions that the man may have been drinking. The man was given a breath screening, with police saying he blew a "fail" reading and declined his right to a second test.

The man received a 90-day driving prohibition and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days, with the matter now referred to RoadSafetyBC.
