People can get some outdoor exercise while raising funds to support end-of-life care in Vernon this weekend.
The North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS) invites all to take part in its annual Hike for Hospice event.
This year's hike is taking place at Juniper Bay in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park Saturday, May 10.
The theme for this year's event is 'Superheroes of the Heart,' celebrating the everyday heroes who support compassionate end-of-life care. Participants are encouraged to wear their favourite superhero outfit as a symbol of solidarity and support.
Registration and refreshments will take place from 9-10:30 a.m., and the hike is from 10:30 to 12 p.m.
The Hike for Hospice is a vital fundraiser with proceeds directly supporting NOHS programs, including hospice house care, hospice at-home services and grief and bereavement support. These services help ensure people facing life-limiting illnesses receive appropriate care and dignity at the final stages of their life.
"Every step taken during the Hike for Hospice makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve," said NOHS executive director Megan Cox. "We are grateful for the community's continued support and look forward to walking together in compassion and remembrance."
NOHS is a registered charity that operates a 12-bed palliative care facility in Vernon for North Okanagan residents.
