The sports fields at Springwood Park will be closed temporarily to the public while a contractor treats them for weed control.

The sports fields at Springwood Park will be closed temporarily to the public starting Aug. 26.

The fields are expected to reopen on Aug. 30, according to a news release by the City of Parksville.

"In line with the city’s integrated pest management program, the weed growth on the Springwood sport fields has surpassed the action threshold," the release said.

The city’s contractor will apply a pesticide as spot treatment on the fields. Signage will be posted on the fields notifying the public of the application.

During the closure, the sports fields will be closed to all play. The tennis courts, washroom building, and parking lots will be open during this time.
