Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Cariboo region on May 29, 2025.
The alert includes the entire Cariboo region, from south of 100 Mile House, to Williams Lake and north to Quesnel.
The lightning map already shows lightning falling in the areas surrounding Quesnel and Williams Lake.
The weather alert states conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.
The resulting weather could include strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, leading to the risk of flash flooding and reductions to visibility for drivers.
"When thunder roars, go indoors," cautions the Environment Canada weather alert, noting lightning kills Canadians every year and large hail can cause significant damage and injury.
Environment Canada asks the public to report severe weather by sending emails to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca.
