Police were called to a home on the 2000-block of Milton Street in Oak Bay after the resident noticed graffiti had been spray-painted on a gate.
Oak Bay police report "two pentagram-like symbols and several instances of the number 666" were painted in red on the gate sometime between 12:20 and 4:15 p.m. June 13.
The graffiti was removed by the resident before police arrived, and it is not believed the graffiti was motivated by hate or political intent. No suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident was one of 73 calls for service received by the Oak Bay Police Department during the week of June 9 to 15.
Police also received a report of two men offering window-cleaning services in a "suspicious manner" June 13 on the 2600-block of Dunlevy Street.
"The complainant noted that the individuals were aggressive in their sales approach and refused to provide identification or business credentials," stated a release from Oak Bay police. "They also lacked any equipment typically associated with window cleaning."
Officers attended the home but were unable to locate the individuals.
Police remind residents to be cautious of individuals offering services at their door. Police say warning signs may include no visible equipment or work vehicle; lack of uniform or business identification; aggressive or high-pressure sales tactics; demands for upfront payment; and no business license or online presence.
"If you are concerned about the legitimacy of individuals or believe their behaviour is suspicious, you are encouraged to notify the police," noted the release.
