A man was issued a driving prohibition and multiple tickets for excessive speeding while he was allegedly under the influence on Thursday, May 29.
Just before 3 a.m., a Saanich Police Department officer spotted a vehicle seemingly speeding in the 4000-block of the Pat Bay Highway, and multiple laser readings showed the driver was travelling at 174 km/h on an 80 km/h road.
The vehicle did not stop for the officer and instead continued to speed southbound before turning off at Vernon Avenue. The officer located the vehicle parked on a dead-end side street in the Carey Road area where the driver was taken into custody.
The driver submitted to an impairment screening device and failed.
He was issued an administrative driving prohibition, which prohibits him from driving for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was also issued multiple traffic tickets, including one for failing to display an “N” sign, and one for speeding excessively. He was later released from custody.
Police also anticipate recommending charges to the Crown for flight from a police officer and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
