Saanich police issued a roadside prohibition to the impaired driver of a commercial tractor trailer.

An allegedly impaired driver of a tractor trailer was issued a driving prohibition order on Monday, April 28 after the Saanich Police Department received a report of the truck driving erratically southbound on the Pat Bay Highway.

At around 9 p.m., officers from the Traffic Safety Unit located the vehicle travelling eastbound on Mackenzie Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say the officers noticed a "strong smell" of alcohol emanating from the driver,  and the officers administered two roadside breath tests. The driver failed both tests.

"The Saanich Police Department are committed to keeping our roads safe and remind all drivers that impaired driving will not be tolerated," noted a news release from the department.

The vehicle was carrying a commercial shipment, so it was first towed to its destination for delivery before being impounded for 30 days. The driver's licence was seized and he was issued a 90-day roadside prohibition.
