Saanich invites residents to learn about operations centre redevelopment

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1040 McKenzie Ave.

The District of Saanich is inviting residents to attend a public information session to learn about its plan to redevelop its operations centre.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1040 McKenzie Ave.

“Redeveloping the operations centre will allow us to continue delivering high-quality essential services to residents long into the future,” Harley Machielse, the district's director of engineering, said in a news release. “We are excited to showcase the draft site plan to the public."

In addition to modernizing the building, the plan outlines the district's goal to build apartments on the land slated for redevelopment.

"The redevelopment will leverage Saanich-owned land to boost the supply of affordable and market rental housing," the district said in the same release. "Planned residential buildings will encompass 400 to 600 units, offering a variety of studio, one, two, and three-bedroom options. Affordable rentals will be integral to these plans, supporting Saanich's commitment to new purpose-built rental housing."

Residents will have a chance to learn about the project’s scope – total redevelopment costs are estimated at approximately $172 million – and engage with project experts and provide feedback.
