Another busy weekend is in the forecast for Kelowna and it comes with some temporary road closures.
On Saturday, June 14, the Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon is taking place, causing some traffic delays across town from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Half-marathon runners will depart The Vibrant Vine Winery (3240 Pooley Road) at 7 a.m., and turn east onto Pooley Road. Flaggers will be on scene to hold traffic while runners enter the road.
"Traffic control personnel will be stationed at intersections along this route to temporarily hold traffic while runners pass, including at the intersection of KLO and Pandosy where lights will be dark from 8 – 9:30 a.m.," stated the City in a press release. "There are also 10K and 5K race options starting at 8:30 a.m., departing from Kelowna Fish & Game Club and Gyro Beach respectively which follow the same route."
Some routes for participants include Bemrose, Reekie, Hart, Spiers, Todd, Saucier and Bedford Roads to the Casorso and Swamp roundabout. Runners then enter the Mission Creek Greenway, turn onto Lakeshore Road at Truswell and make their way to the lakefront promenade at City Park via Groves Avenue and Abbott Streets.
On Sunday, the CSN Collision Father’s Day Car Show returns to City Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Because of this, lane and parking restrictions will be in effect along Leon Avenue, Water Street, Lawrence Avenue and Abbott Street from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, traffic control personnel will be on-site advised motorists.
Additionally, parking on the City Park lot will be restricted from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vehicles and vendors will be in the grass area adjacent to the parking lot and children’s playground.
Up-to-date traffic advisories, road closures, and delays can be found on the city's website.
