A remedial action order for a property at 84 Oliver St. in Williams Lake will remain in effect.

Originally the order was placed on the property on Sept. 12, 2023 to address unsafe conditions related to an open pit on the property after the original building - Diamonds and Dust Entertainment Lounge - was destroyed in a fire in 2019.

Owners of the property requested reconsideration of the remedial action order, however, the property was sold since then and the new property owner is working with the city to ensure safety surrounding the open excavation is addressed.

One of the new owners happens to be an engineer, but he hired a third party engineer to avoid optics, said Gary Deane, manager of planning and development, during the regular council meeting Tuesday, Nov. 7.

“The owners have recognized the need to review the stability of the site (as noted in the previous staff report on the matter) and have committed, in writing, to have all the stabilization work completed prior to November 30, 2023.”

Deane noted the owners have further committed to re-setting the security fencing that encroaches onto city property and the sidewalk.
