A prescribed burn is planned for up to 50 hectares in the area surrounding Thunder Mountain Speedway on the outskirts of Williams Lake.

BC Wildfire Service said it will be supporting Williams Lake First Nation and the Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District for the burning, which could begin as early as Monday, Sept. 23 and continue periodically until Oct. 4.

"Ignition will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation," noted the BCWS in a news release. "Smoke may be visible from Williams Lake and surrounding communities and to motorists travelling along Highway 20, Dog Creek Road, and Bond Lake Road."
