A series of controlled burns is set to take place at Chimney Lake and Felker Lake recreation sites next week.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning the prescribed burn in support of Recreation Sites and Trails, which will be over a total of nine hectares.

This burn project, located about 20 minutes outside of Williams Lake, is conducted on a yearly basis to reduce wildfire hazards in the area by removing accumulations of grass and shrubs around the recreation sites.

Burning will take place between Tuesday, March 19 and Friday, March 22. Burning will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions to allow for quick smoke dissipation. Smoke and flames will be visible in the area, with firefighters monitoring the fire activity at all times.
